Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 cups sliced apples Use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
For the Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats Don’t skimp, they provide great texture.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Can use walnuts or pecans.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
  2. Layer the apple mixture in the bottom of the crockpot, spreading it evenly.
  3. In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples, covering them generously.
Cooking
  1. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, ensure it's fully cooled before transferring to a freezer-safe container, lasting about 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
