Ingredients
  

For the apples
  • 6 pieces apples Firm varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are best.
For the filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter Melted.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 cup raisins Optional; can be substituted.
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts Optional; can be substituted.
For cooking
  • 1 cup water To keep the apples moist during cooking.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Core the apples and place them in your Crock-Pot.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, and chopped nuts.
  3. Generously fill each apple with the mixture, ensuring it's packed nicely.
  4. Pour the water around the apples to keep them moist during the baking process.
Cooking
  1. Cover the Crock-Pot and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours, or until the apples are tender and fragrant.
Serving
  1. Enjoy warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a richer dessert, consider broiling the apples briefly after slow cooking. Allow cooled baked apples to be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
