Main Ingredients
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey Substituting turkey lightens the dish.
  • 1 packet chili seasoning
  • 1/3 cup water Optional
  • 1 tsp chili powder Optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by browning your ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Once it’s cooked through, drain any excess fat.
  2. Transfer the beef to your slow cooker or a large pot.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili seasoning, and any optional ingredients like water or additional chili powder, then give it a good stir.
  4. Set your cooker to low heat and let it cook for at least 4 hours, or you can let it simmer all day for enhanced flavor.

Notes

Chili can be garnished with sour cream, shredded cheese, or green onions. It pairs well with crusty bread or cornbread. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days, or freeze portions for up to three months.
