Ingredients
  

For the batter
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup milk Non-dairy milk can be used as a substitute.
For the topping
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pour the melted butter into the slow cooker.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, and milk until smooth.
  3. Pour this mixture into the slow cooker over the melted butter.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the remaining sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Sprinkle this blend over the batter; do not stir.
  5. Carefully pour boiling water over the top; again, do not stir.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 3-4 hours. A light and fluffy chocolate cake will form on top, with a rich chocolate sauce beneath.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
